Burkhart’s is one of Atlanta’s most popular gay bars, and with good reason. The crowds are diverse, there’s plenty of different areas to hang out within the bar, and the drag shows include some of Atlanta’s biggest names. But there’s one area that’s occasionally overlooked: the menu. And we’re not talking about a drink menu.
Indeed, Burkhart’s offers more than drinks to customers on a daily basis. The bar also serves a full menu of food, from starters and salads to sandwiches and entrées. Sandwiches are served with french fries or tater tots, while entrées are served with two sides – one of several potato-based sides plus one of the bar’s vegetables of the day. The best part of the menu, though, may very well be the prices. Without skimping on quality, the prices are some of the most inexpensive you’ll find around town.
For my fellow carnivores out there, I have to recommend the ribeye steak. It’s one of the more expensive steaks on the menu, but well worth the price. The steak is cooked to order, and what came out was a deliciously juicy, large cut of meat. And the sides…oh, my. My dish was served with loaded mashed potatoes, and “loaded” is right – they’re filled with butter, sour cream, bacon and cheese. I also tried a newer side called pizza zucchini, which takes chargrilled zucchini and tops it with, among other ingredients, marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese and pepperoni. The “pizza” elements created a nice contrast to the steak and potatoes, and the zucchini was nice and fresh.
So the next time you’re in the mood for a good steak, give Burkhart’s a shot. The food is excellent, and at prices you simply can’t ignore.
